This page describes the differences between EzPlan-IT and A-Dato Scheduler. We will provide you with relevant information by answering some questions.
Is it possible to convert applications from EzPlan-IT components to A-Dato components?
In short no, none of the components contained in EzPlan-IT also exist in A-Dato scheduler. However the technical design is more or less the same and you'll therefore find components in A-Dato scheduler that have the same purpose as they had in EzPlan-IT but with a different name and implementation (for example EzDataset is replaced by TDatasetDataModel).
What are the differences between EzPlan-IT and A-Dato Scheduler?
The A-Dato components come from the same background as EzPlan-IT and they share many features with this product. However, A-Dato scheduler is completely redesigned and rewritten. Some of the differences are:
- A-Dato Scheduler is built using a .Net classes.
- A-Dato scheduler uses a data model to access data.
- A specialized datamodel is implemented to handle projects, tasks, resources, relations, etc.
- A-Dato scheduler uses interfaces.
Built using .Net classes? How is that possible with Delphi VCL? This is possible because A-Dato scheduler uses Dotnet4Delphi, a Delphi win32 implementation of a large number of .Net classes. Does this mean you must know .Net in order to use A-Dato scheduler? No, by no means, the integration of A-Dato scheduler with Delphi is seamless and you can continue to write code as before. However, A-Dato scheduler does a lot of things the .Net way and many objects are implemented like their .Net counterpart (like strings, date time values, collections).
Which version of A-Dato Scheduler should I choose?
A-Dato scheduler comes in 3 versions. A-Dato Visual includes all the visual components, but has no support for scheduling. A-Dato Standard adds a critical path scheduler and A-Dato Professional implements critical chain project management and ISA-95 support.
Also see the comparisson table.
Which Delphi versions can I use with A-Dato Scheduler?
A-Dato Scheduler is available for Delphi 2009 and Delphi 2010 as it relies on generics. It will become available for Delphi Prism and Visual studio in the near future.
What about the future of EzPlan-IT?
Of course we hope that you will be evenly enthusiastic about the new A-Dato scheduler components as you are about EzPlan-IT and that you'll make the switch to this new product. Be assured though that you are free to choose because we will continue to support EzPlan-IT.
Can you support us with the transition to A-Dato Scheduler?
Yes, we offer hands on support and come to you when needed. Please contact us to discuss any details in case you are interested.
I am a licensed EzPlan-IT user, does this mean I have a license for A-Dato scheduler as well?
No, A-Dato Scheduler is sold using a different license model which is user based instead of developer based. We have special offers for our existing EzPlan-IT customers. Please contact us to learn more (info at a-dato dot net).
